Fireworks on New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve in Iceland is celebrated on the last day of the year (December 31) from 18:00 all through the night and into the early hours of the morning of January 1.
On New Year's Eve, the shooting of fireworks gradually builds intensity until midnight, when the skies over Reykjavik are set ablaze from end to end with over 500 tons of fireworks erupting into the air in just over half an hour.
