Snæfellsbær, Iceland

When heading to the north and west of Reykjavik you end up in the peninsula of Snaefellsnes. No visitor to Iceland should miss this part, if only for a day.
Snaefellsnes has been called a miniature Iceland because of the many iconic natural features that can be found here – craters, waterfalls, glaciers, fumaroles, basalt cliffs, and more.

The area surrounding the stratovolcano Snaefellsjokull has been designated one of the four National Parks by the government of Iceland.

With its height of 1446 m, Snaefellsjokull is the highest mountain on the peninsula and has a glacier(glacier means jokull in Icelandic) at its peak.

The volcano can be seen on clear days from Reykjavik, a distance of about 120 km. It is said that the Snaefellsjokull glacier has mystical powers and that it is the gateway to another world. It is also the setting of Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

The tour takes you through the Budahraun lava field, the coast between the small fishing villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar. The Djupalonssandur beach, which is no less beautiful than the black beach on the south coast tour.

It is a beautiful wild black sand and pebble beach with amazing volcanic rocks rising from the beach, also located inside the park. We will also take a visit to the iconic Kirkjufell mountain and the Kirkjufell waterfall.

Kirkjufell is a very picturesque, 463-meter high mountain that has claimed the lives of a few mountaineers. From the right angle, the mountain resembles a church steeple… or a Witches Hat. The best angle is close to Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall.

This is why the combination has been so successful.
