Djúpalónssandur, Iceland

As Jules Verne's timeless classic Journey to the Centre of the Earth begins in Snaefellsnes, so will our adventure. It is a place of great historical importance and captivating landscapes. Black sand beaches, formidable cliffs, regal mountains, volcanic craters and Snaefellsjokull glacier are just a few of the attractions we'll see during the trip.

On our way to Snaefellsnes National Park we'll meet some of Iceland's local wildlife at the beach, which is home to a seal colony and a variety of seabirds. Before entering the national park we'll stop for a visit in the small village of Arnarstapi and the old fishing village Hellnar where we enjoy lunch by purchase at a charming little cafe by the seashore. Then we take in a few more sights, like the black-pebble beach Djupalonssandur, the world-famous mountain Kirkjufell and Berserkjahraun lava fields. Snaefellsnes is a region rich with geologic and historic significance, made all the more enjoyable when you have someone who knows the ins and outs of the area and has some great stories to share.
