Arngerdareyri (Arngerðareyri) – The Castle

Arngerdareyri (Arngerðareyri) – The Castle

Arngerdareyri is a castle-like house, and rather grander than other buildings in the region.

It was built in 1928, at a time when life was prosperous in Arngerdareyri; there was a bridge where the ferry would stop, a shop for the region and a slaughterhouse.

It stood empty for 40 years until a couple from Germany bought it and are busy restoring it to its former glory.

There is no sign today of the Arngerdareyri forest where it was said a sorcerer was burnt to death in the year 1683.

Legend says the West Fjords were known for having many sorcerers - maybe they still do!
