Breiddalssetur, Research And Heritage Centre

Breiddalssetur, Research, and Heritage center, occasionally also called „the Walker Centre“, is housed in the oldest building of Breiddalsvik, the old cooperative „Gamla Kaupfelagid“, built in 1906. 


Breiddalssetur facilitates earth and literary research activities focused on East Iceland, as well as hosting exhibitions on geology, linguistics and local history. 

Actual exhibitions are about: The geology and minerals of the Eastern Fjords and the world famous British volcanologist George P.L.Walker (1926-2005); a small stone collection; the writer and linguist Stefan Einarsson (1897-1972) from Breiddalur valley and the history of the village Breiddalsvik. — We are looking forward to seeing you! 

Open Summer: 20th May to 15th September: Daily, 11 am – 6 pm 
Winter: By appointment 

Admission: Adults ISK 500, free for children under 16.
