Dyrfinna the Goldsmith & jewellery designer
Dyrfinna Torfadottir operates in a studio-workshop and gallery in Akranes, Iceland. Her studio is located at Stillholt 16-18.
Jewelry and other creations of Dyrfinna Torfadottir can be found and bought in the airport shop at Keflavik Airport, Epal Design, and Listhus Office at Skolavordustig 5, Reykjavik.
The designer traces her roots to Isafjordur, a town in the West Fjords of Iceland, and has always been influenced by nature in that area, closeness to the sea, imposing and rugged mountain ranges together with the delicate flora there.
This kind of drawing power has activated Dyrfinna’s intertwining of fish skin and silver into decorative patterns of flowers and other plant life.
The actual patterns have their origin in traditional Icelandic festive dresses of women from around the middle of the 19th century, initially designed by artist painter Sigurdur Gudmundsson who was much interested in old and new attire for women and created their formal festive dresses.
