Ellidaar (Elliðaár) Salmon River
Ellidaar (Elliðaár) Salmon River
On the eastern outskirts of Reykjavik, a bridge crosses the river Ellidaar, a wild salmon river.
It’s thought that Reykjavik is the only capital in the world that has such a river running through it. In summer you may see anglers fishing for salmon here.
There are paths along the banks of the river, through a small forested recreational area, the Ellidaardalur valley. Redwings (a kind of thrush) are easy to see as they move among the branches of the birch trees. Many wildflowers grow among the trees.
