Glymur Waterfall

Glymur Waterfall

Duration: about 1-1.5 hours each way. Difficulty: the first part of the walk as far as the river is easy. The river crossing requires concentration and the path becomes rocky and more challenging after this. Interest: Iceland’s second highest waterfall, mountain views. Start/End: at the head of Hvalfjörđur take the track inland signposted Glymur. After a couple of kilometers, park at the end of the track.

The path to Iceland’s second highest waterfall begins from the car park as a fairly level broad trail. Eventually, you reach a viewpoint over the river where the trail drops through a cave to the river. Cross the river with care on a log with a handrail for support. The route continues over a rocky section (with a chain to help you up) to a viewpoint over the 198m high falls, which plummet into a narrow chasm.

This hike is not possible in winter.
