Heimskautsgerdid (Heimskautsgerðið) Arctic Henge

Looming impressively on the hill above Raufarhofn is Heimskautsgerdid or Arctic Henge, a newly built monument for the island’s Pagan worshippers. Its circles and stacked basalt columns are positioned according to Norse mythology.

Similar to Stonehenge, the Arctic Henge is a huge sundial to capture the sun´s rays, cast shadows in precise locations and channel light between aligned gateways.

When fully completed it will be 52m in diameter and contain a Dwarf Path with the names of 72 dwarves. It will also have four gates corresponding to the four seasons. Finally, a crystal will be placed on the top of an 8m column, which will throw light all over the Henge.
