Hornafjordur Art Museum opened at a ceremony on Friday, June 24, 2011. The museum is located at City Hall Hornafjörður in an old fire station and the opening exhibition was the works of Svavars Guðnason which his widow Ásta Eiríksdóttr donated generously.
About 250 works are now owned by the municipality and its agencies, in addition, Svavars works by more painters from Hornafjordur such as Bjarni Guðmundsson, Hoskuldur Bjornsson, Jón Þorleifsson, Rafn Eiríksson and Bjarni Henriksson.
As well as the hall in an old fire station we have worked on display in many of the municipal agencies, for example, schools, nursing home, town hall, library etc. The Museum shows various exhibitions throughout the year, but in the summer the works of Svavars Guðnason are on display.
Open Summer: 9:15 am until 12 pm, 12:45 pm until 3 pm & Weekends 12 pm until 5 pm Winter: 9 am until 4 pm weekdays & the first Saturday every month Skreiðaskemman - maritime exhibition.
Open June-Sept. 8 am until 8 pm
