Latrabjarg (Látrabjarg) Hike
Latrabjarg (Látrabjarg) Hike
Duration: 1-3 hours each way. Difficulty: an easy to moderate cliff-top walk. Interest: puffins, guillemots and other seabirds (best from May to late July); views. Start/End: the lighthouse at the end of road 612.
From the car park, a marked trail leads along the cliff top. The path gradually rises to a high point of 441m with numerous dramatic viewpoints along the way.
You can walk as far as you like before turning back.
The marked trail ends at a memorial to the crew of the Fleetwood trawler Dhoon and the local farmers who rescued them against all odds when the ship ran aground at the base of the cliff on 12th December 1947. All but three of the crew survived.
Important safety note: stay back from the cliff edge and avoid this walk in fog or gusty winds.
