Fjardarsel Power Plant (Fjarðarsel)

Fjararselsvirkjun near Seydisfjordur is Iceland’s oldest operational power plant and has run since 1913. It was the first power plant in Iceland that generated alternating current. The first high voltage cable in Iceland was laid from this station.

You can walk from the town along the river to the power plant, where a small exhibition is housed in the power station building. The first water turbine is still there with its accompanying equipment. For a visit please contact the Information Centre in Seydisfjördur tel. +354 472 1551
