Skotufjordur (Skötufjörður) Turf Farm

Skotufjordur (Skötufjörður) Turf Farm

On the shore of Skotufjordur (Skate Fjord) is Litlibaer, a beautifully restored turf farm open to visitors from mid-May to mid-September.

Litlibaer (Little Farm) was built in 1895 and as many as 20 people lived there at any one time. The house was occupied until 1969, its residents living from fishing and farming.

Now renovated and under the care of the National Museum of Iceland, Litlibaer takes you back to a time when almost all Icelanders lived a simple rural life.

What makes the place special is that the family who formerly farmed here now run it as a cafe in the summertime – try the waffles with cream and rhubarb jam.

At Hvitanes, 2km to the north, you can observe seals hauled out on the rocks close to the shore.
