Taste the Local Specialities of Myvatn

Trout has been caught and smoked in Myvatn for centuries.  You'll find it on the menu but it may be a little strong for some as traditionally it is smoked in dung!  You can buy it directly from the producer at Geiteyjarstrond.

The smoked trout is typically served on Hverabraud ‘hot spring bread’ or ‘lava bread’ that is baked in the hot ground for 24 hours.

Some establishments offer a buffet where you can sample a whole range of local delicacies.

At the Vogafjos Cowshed Café, sit down to a meal or snack and taste the home-made bread with mozzarella, smoked lamb and trout, whilst watching the cows being milked.
