Ytri tunga Seals

South of road 54, just east of Guesthouse Hof, turn down a farm track and when you reach the house, bear right and continue to a parking area by a golden sand beach.

On the offshore rocks seals haul out and in clear weather, there is a lovely view west to the snow-capped volcano of Snaefellsjokull.

Seals are easily disturbed so please don't try to approach close to them.

Iceland has two species of seal that are readily observed:  common (harbor) seal and grey seal.

The common seals are smaller and have shorter faces, whereas grey seals and larger and have a longer 'nose'.
