Bakkafjordur (Bakkafjörður) Village
Bakkafjordur (Bakkafjörður) Village
The sweeping view on the approach to Bakkafloi bay on road 85 is often superb and will tempt you to pull over and take a photo. Bakkafjordur is a tiny fishing village where you can see the boats land their catch of the day.
Another point of interest is the local church, Skeggjastadakirkja, located at the head of the bay. It is the oldest church in the region, built in 1845, mostly out of driftwood (a permit for a visit can be obtained at Skeggjastaðir farm).
There is a curious looking rock stack called Stapi in the ocean a little to the west of the farm.
