Bjolfur Mountain drive (Bjólfur) and avalanche barriers
Mt. Bjolfur is an impressive 1085m peak overlooking Seydisfjorður. The steep sides of the mountain are an avalanche hazard and barriers have been constructed on the mountain flank to prevent avalanches from falling on the town.
From Fjardarheidi heath on road 93, a 5km dirt road, passable in summer to normal cars under normal conditions, takes you to the panoramic mountain viewpoint over the avalanche barriers, the town, and fjord.
The drive should normally take 15-20 minutes.
