Botanical Gardens in Akureyri - 66°N
The Botanical Gardens of Akureyri are an extensive and colorful collection of both cultivated and wild plants. There are sections on Icelandic and Arctic flora and the aim is to collect every species that grows around the world at 66°N.
Among the garden flowers of note, you'll find huge delphiniums, aquilegia and Himalayan poppies. The arboretum section of the gardens showcases a wide range of tree species that grow successfully in sheltered spots.
The gardens were set up in the early 20th century by a group of local women who wanted a quiet and sheltered recreational space to gather with their children and friends. It’s a delight to walk around the gardens and the café is the perfect spot to add to the experience.
The gardens are open 1st June to 30th September Monday-Friday 08.00-22.00 and weekends 09.00-22.00.
Entrance is free.
