Breiddalsvik (Breiðdalsvík) Village

Breiddalsvik (Breiðdalsvík) Village

A short detour from road 1, Breiddalsvik is a small fishing community with a couple of hotels and a small supermarket.

It has an interesting geological, cultural and linguistic exhibition in its oldest house, built in 1883, now restored.

Just outside the village take a stroll on Meleyri, a beautiful long black sand beach and admire the 1000m rugged mountains surrounding the broad bay.

Inland, explore Breiddalur the longest and widest valley in East Iceland and the site of a major volcanic system during the Tertiary period.
