Bridge between continents
Bridge between continents
The Mid-Atlantic Ridge runs through Iceland from the southwest to the northeast and it’s particularly visible here on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
The divergent American and Euro-Asian tectonic plates are pulling apart at around 2.5cm a year causing fractures, fissures, wide canyons, and even rift valleys to open up.
A small footbridge was built over one of these impressive fissures which effectively symbolizes crossing between two continents.
