Fagurholsmyri (Fagurhólsmýri)

Not really a village but a cluster of farms. The area was so isolated in past times because of the difficulty of crossing the glacial rivers, that farms were grouped together so that people at least had some social life.

The only way into the area was by air and you can see a small airfield on the plain.

From here you can take a tractor trailer-ride across the sands to Ingolfshofdi bird reserve, a sanctuary for puffins, great skuas, and other birds. Note that the sands are tidal and there is no public access in your own vehicle even if it is a 4x4 super jeep!
