Faxi Waterfall

Faxi Waterfall

Just off road 35 is a short detour to the small waterfall Faxi. Faxi means 'horse's mane' and you can see by the shape how it got its name.

You can walk down past the cafe to the waterfall, where you'll find a salmon ladder, built alongside the river to aid wild salmon in their quest to reach their spawning grounds.

Below the parking area, the round structure is a sheep pen.  After the autumn round-up, farmers drive the sheep collectively into the central area of the pens, from where they sort the sheep into individual segments, each corresponding to one farm.

Formerly, sheep ears were cut in a special way to denote ownership, though nowadays this system has largely been replaced by plastic tags.
