Ferry to Flatey Island

Ferry to Flatey Island

The ferry trip across Breidafjordur bay takes 2.5 hours and along the way calls at Flatey Island.

You can visit this tiny island on a there and back day trip, or stopping over and continuing across to the other side of the bay later in the day or on the following day.  You can visit as a foot passenger or stay overnight at the small hotel but cars are not allowed on Flatey - one of the island's great attractions!

You should arrive at the ferry terminus at Stykkisholmur one hour before departure as you will need to collect your tickets from the ticket office at the harbor before boarding.

No cars are allowed on Flatey so your vehicle will continue to Brjanslaekur where it will be ready for you to collect on the quayside on your arrival.

If you are overnighting on Flatey, you will need to take your luggage with you onto the ferry so you can disembark with it on arrival in Flatey – access to your vehicle will not be permitted once the ferry leaves port. There will be luggage transport on Flatey between the ferry port and the hotel but passengers usually walk (about 15 minutes).
