Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss
Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss
Kirkjufell, west of Grundarfjordur, is a beautiful mountain, eroded by glaciers on all four sides to form its unusual steeple-shaped summit.
The vertiginous path leading up its steep north face is not recommended. An easier option is to hike around the base of the 463m high mountain, which will take around 1.5 hours.
Visitors can park at the foot of the mountain, where you will also find the delightful Kirkjufellsfoss, a small two-tiered waterfall, popular with photographers.
