Lake Thingvallavatn (Thingvallavatn)

Lake Thingvallavatn (Thingvallavatn)

Lake Thingvallavatn is Iceland’s largest natural lake with a surface area of 84km2.

A big screen at the Hakid Visitor Centre shows footage of life in the lake; four different varieties of Arctic char have evolved here from a single species in only 10,000 years, making it unique.

The brown trout in the lake can trace their origin back to Ice Age Britain. Its fame is based on great numbers and size up to 20lbs!
