Laugafell Hot Pool and Hut

Laugafell Hot Pool and Hut

Laugafell is a mountain hut owned by the Touring Club of Akureyri. The old hut dates from 1948-50, but a newer accommodation facility was built in 1994-98.

The hut is sited in a remote area the central highlands of Iceland, at a crossroads of mountain tracks. Access to the area is only possible in high summer for those equipped with high clearance four-wheel drive vehicles, classed as suitable for highland driving. If your vehicle is not in this class, please do not attempt to drive here.

In clear weather, the drive to this highland oasis brings far-reaching panoramic views of the uninhabited interior.  In bad weather, it can feel hostile, even spooky!  The reward for your efforts is the chance to bathe in the hot-spring-fed swimming pool next to the huts, for a small fee.
