Laugar village
Laugar village
Laugar, meaning ‘hot springs’ is a small community in Reykjadalur, which has sprung up around its geothermal activity and school.
Most of the springs have been harnessed for space heating and greenhouse cultivation.
A secondary school was built here in the early 20th century and within one of the first swimming pools in Iceland.
Swimming is a part of the curriculum in schools. A new outdoor state of the art pool and sports complex are on the site today.
There are a small shop and fuel station.
