Nautholsvik hot pool and geothermal beach (Nauthólsvík)
Nautholsvik hot pool and geothermal beach (Nauthólsvík)
Is Nautholsvik Iceland's answer to the Spanish 'Costas'? Well, maybe not quite but if you ship in a beach load of golden sand, then send a hot water pipe into the sea around it, you're half-way there! Iceland's love of swimming has given us Nautholsvik.
You'll find a proper changing facility and showers (for which a small charge is made in winter but it's free in summer), a spacious hot tub at 38-39°C, and a steam bath which is up to 47°C. An enclosed seawater lagoon at the edge of the beach is heated by a hot water outlet, which warms the sea nearest to the shore, in summer to 15°- 19°C. What's more, bathers come to swim in the open fjord year round and the average temperature is 4°- 6°C in the winter and 12°- 13°C in the summer.
