Patreksfjordur (Patreksfjörður) town
Patreksfjordur (Patreksfjörður) town
Patreksfjordur, population 700, was named after the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. It’s a fishing town and service center for the region with a small hospital, a bank, post office, pharmacy, restaurants, cafes, and various gift shops.
The outdoor swimming pool is located high above the fjord on the edge of town with uninterrupted views.
For something a little different, visit Sjoraeningjahusid (The Pirate House) located in the Old Smithy.
Learn about the pirates that raided Icelandic shores in the 15th and 16th centuries and see an exhibition on how pirates lived back in the day. The Pirate House is also a restaurant and at times concerts are held here.
