Perlan Museum
Perlan Museum
Located south of downtown Reykjavik and close to the domestic airport, Perlan (meaning the pearl) is a multi-purpose building with a planetarium-style roof made out of glass.
The top floors of the complex house a 360° outdoor viewing platform with great views over the whole of Reykjavik and there is also a restaurant, a café, and a gift shop.
Exhibitions at Perlan
Glaciers of Iceland, past, and present
This exhibition allows you to learn about glaciers, their past, present, and their bleak future. Interactive panels, videos and a 360° stunning wall picture of the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajokull are some of the highlights of the exhibition.
Ice Cave in a City
Experience the feeling of walking through a real glacier cave. This unique indoor ice cave is an accurate replica of an ice tunnel which is dug straight through a glacier.
The ice cave is the first of its kind to be built in the world in the middle of a city such as Reykjavik.
Observation Deck
Located on the 4th floor, there is an observation deck which revolves around the main dome which allows for a completely uninterrupted view over the city of Reykjavik, out to sea and mountains and a close up of the domestic airport.
The observation deck features informative panels describing some of the points of interest in the horizon.
Planetarium, Nature Museum and Northern Lights exhibition all coming soon.
