The Sagnheimar Heritage Museum and Library museum gives good insight into the unique story of Vestmannaeyjar: the fishing history, the Turkish abductions, the volcanic eruption of Heimaey, the Thjodhatid festival, the local sports history, the travels of Icelandic Mormons to Utah and many more.
There is also a Pirate cave for the children. Free internet at the Library and Museum

Summer: May 1st–Sept. 30th: Daily 10 am until 5 pm
Winter: Oct.1st-April 30th: Sat. 1 pm until 4 pm Library Opening Hours: Summer: June 1st - August 31st: Mon-Fri 10 am until 5 pm
Winter: Sept. 1st - May 31st: Mon-Fri 10 am until 6 pm Admission: ISK 1000, free for children under 18 years
