Secret Lagoon, Fludir (Flúðir)

Secret Lagoon, Fludir (Flúðir)

The size of a small lake, the 'Secret Lagoon' is a geothermal bathing pool set among greenhouses just outside the village of Fludir.

It is accessible throughout the year.

Originally built in 1891, but recently renovated, it is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. This outdoor geothermal pool remains at a constant temperature of 36-40°C and is gaining popularity as a quiet and atmospheric bathing spot.

What makes it special are the natural hot springs in its surrounds, including a small geyser, which you can watch erupt as you soak in the pool.

There's a trail around the edge of the lagoon where you can take a closer look at the hot springs.

There are changing rooms, lockers, and showers on site and a cafe selling light refreshments.  Towels and swimsuits can be hired.

Advance booking is recommended, though not always essential.
