Strandir Coast

Strandir Coast

This area is only accessible in summer. This is a two-hour drive (each way) on gravel road 643, through one of the most remote and isolated regions of Iceland.

The road snakes along the coast between steep rocky summits and the pounding sea. At Djupavik you can visit the old herring station and have coffee at the guesthouse.

Further north climb Reykjaneshyrna hill for a stunning view up and down the coast.

At the end of this road, you’ll find the tiny hamlet of Norðurfjordur on an idyllic bay. Just beyond here at Krossneslaug, near the end of the road, there’s a swimming pool perched above a rocky shore.
