The Culture House - Þjóðmenningarhús

The Culture House - Þjóðmenningarhús

A window into medieval Iceland the Culture House holds some of the most highly valued cultural treasures in Iceland; the medieval vellum manuscripts, including the Codex Regius of the Elder Edda and the two-volume compilation Flateyjarbok.

These ancient vellums contain unique sagas, poems, and narrative that are often our sole written sources of information on the society, religion, and conceptions of Northern Europe, from the time of the pagan religion through the tumult of Viking Expansion, the settlement of the Atlantic Islands and the Christianisation of these northern peoples.

The exhibition Points of View at the Culture House takes guests on a journey through the Icelandic visual world of past and present.

Artifacts and works of art from the varied collections of six institutions provide a reflection of Iceland's visual art history and cultural heritage. Points of View offers an innovative guide to a nation's cultural history.
