The Giant Trolls
The Giant Trolls
In the Kirkjubolsfjall mountain opposite the airport at Isafjordur is a ‘hanging valley’ called Naustahvilft from where there is a great view over the fjord and town.
Legend says it was made when a huge giantess, tired after a long walk sat down on the mountain slope, bathed her feet in the sea and her heavy bottom left this indent in the mountain!
Drive further along the Kirkjubolshlid slope and strangely formed cliffs and small canyons can be spotted along the shoreline. Two rocks might catch your eye; one on the beach and one above.
The one on the beach is Klykir and the other is his spouse Kluka, giant trolls that had been turned to stone by the morning sun after returning late from a night out.
