Vatnsdalsholar (Vatnsdalshólar)
Vatnsdalsholar is a cluster of dune-like hillocks, spread over a five square kilometer area at the foot of Vatnsdalsfjall, the prominent mountain to the east.
It is believed that the hills were formed as a result of a massive landslide and if you look at the flank of the mountain, you'll see where it subsided.
Such landslides were common at the end of the Ice Age. As glaciers retreated, the scoured mountainsides were revealed but they were often unstable and prone to collapse.
There is a small woodland recreational area here with parking, toilets and picnic tables.
